Miao minority baby carriers
In Miao, as other minority groups in southwestern China, baby carriers are decorated with outstanding embroidery. The work is often done prior to marriage by a girl, sometimes working together with her mother, and is a display of skill and industriousness as well as a work of art.
Most good baby carriers date from the mid 20th century and the best work is no longer done. All the baby carriers shown here are authentic examples made by their owners for their own use and show signs of wear.
